This guide helps you get started with your first capture. Please find detailed software and hardware information in the User Manual section.
Log in.
Go to the Settings screen (⚙ icon).
Scroll down to + Add license.
✓ LICENSE CODE window opens.
Type in license code. Press Add.
Capital letters are not necessary.
✓ The license appears under ACTIVITIES/FEATURES.
Switch the sensors and the hub on.
Turn them upside down for 4 seconds, until they start blinking.
Go to the Sensors screen (Sensor icon).
On the “4DMotion” Wants to Join Wi-Fi Network “Nucleus …” window, tap on Join.
Tap the + icon.
Tap the START CONNECTING button.
Tap CANCEL PAIRING to stop the process.
On the Sensors Paired screen, tap CONFIRM.
✓ On the Sensors screen, the hub and all sensors are listed.
Tap on the Home icon (⌂).
On the Student list, tap on one student’s name.
On the MY PROFILE screen, tap on the CAPTURE button.
On the Configuration screen, tap on the SELECT button.
Connect to the sensors and tap Next.
Tip: If you aren’t connected to the hub's network, on the “4DMotion” Wants to Join Wi-Fi Network “Nucleus …” window, tap on Join.
Optional step: The app may guide you through Sensor calibration if you haven’t performed them within 24 hours yet. Follow the on-screen instructions. For more information, check Sensor Calibration below.
On the SENSOR SETUP screen, tap on the CONNECT button.
On the SUCCESSFULLY CONNECTED screen, tap on the NEXT button.
On the SENSOR SETUP screen, place the delegated sensor on the selected body part, and tap on the NEXT button.
Note: The selected sensor blinks in green. Place all 8 sensors on the student’s body.
On the DEVICE PLACEMENT screen, tap the NEXT button.
Run the user pose calibration in the same place where you will be taking captures!
On the STAND STILL IN ATTENTION POSITION screen, read the instructions and tap NEXT.
Note: Tap on the COUNTDOWN button to select the countdown time from the list.
On the STAND STILL IN POSITION screen, stand in attention pose until after the second beep.
On the SUCCESSFUL SENSOR SETUP screen, tap on NEXT.
Note: If you move the hip or chest sensors from the front to the back or vice versa, repeat the user pose calibration.
On the Capture screen, select a category from the list.
On the Select a Movement list, select a movement from the list.
✓ The selected movement is highlighted in green.
Note: Tap on the ? icon to view the movement description.
Tap to Start recording, and perform the movement.
After the repetition/movement is finished, tap to Stop Recording.
Note: You can tap Delete & Redo to start over.
Tap on Check Results to review the captures.
Tap on the ← icon to stop the current session.

Software Information
With the Human Performance feature, you can:
record your patient’s movements with the help of our newest gen 4 sensor set
analyse the recordings with the help of KPIs
monitor your patient’s progress over the course of their treatment
You can register a profile for each patient. Their captures will be visible under their profiles. This allows you to review their progress with the help of KPIs and Trendlines.
On the Home screen, tap on the ADD STUDENT button.
Type in patient information.
Tap Save.
On the Home screen, tap on the patient’s name.
On the My Profile screen, tap on the Pencil icon.
Select the I agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy checkbox.
Tap on Save.
⚠ Connect your device to the internet when adding or editing student profiles.
There are 2 configurations available for the Human Performance activity:
a 2-sensor Torso config
an 8-sensor Full body config
To start capturing,
Select a Patient Profile
Tap Capture
Select the desired configuration.
There are 3 movement categories. Each has a different focus and set of KPIs. You can select from all categories and movements within the same session. You can also make several repetitions.

Within a session, you can select multiple movements and have your patient complete the desired number of repetitions.
Once the capture is completed, you can analyze the movements individually, with the help of graphs, KPIs and Trendlines.
Tap on Select a Category.

New movements allow you to add new movements to each category. They are saved under the category of your choice, and are visible with all of your patients.
In the Select a Movement list, tap on Add new movement.
On the Name the movement screen, type the name of the movement.
Tap OK.
Within a session, you can select multiple movements and have your patient complete the desired number of repetitions.
Once the capture is completed, you can analyse the movements individually, with the help of graphs, KPIs and Trendlines.
Tap on Select a Category.
Tap on Select a Movement.
Tap the Start Recording button.
Tap the Stop Recording button once the movement has been completed.
There are 5 movements available:

Sit to Stand
You can select new categories and movements to capture within the same session. You can find a timeline of previous movements in the top left corner of the screen.
Stop the last recording
Select a category and a movement from the list.
Tap Start recording again.
On the Results screen, tap on the 🗨 icon
In the Notes window, tap on the Edit button.
Type your notes.
Tap Save note.
There’s a selection of KPIs for each movement. They are visible on the Result screen.
Tap on a KPI from the list to see the avatar in the position the data was recorded. Line and protractor tools appear on the avatar.
In the Extended KPI box under the avatar, tap on the ? icon to find information about the KPI.
Note: If there were more repetitions, this info box shows an average and a maximum value for that KPI. If there was only one repetition, the maximum value is displayed.
Color coding helps you to see if your patient’s movement is within range.
Color coding:
Green: good, within range
Yellow: slightly out of range
Red: not good, out of range

Tip: The KPIs of Free movements show all KPIs of their Category. Relevant KPIs will be color-coded (see above), while the others remain gray.
This feature enables you to get historic KPI data from your patient’s previous captures.
On the MY PROFILE screen, tap Check results.
On the KPI list, tap on the KPI of your preference.
In the Extended KPI box, tap on the Show trendline button.
✓ The TRENDLINE screen opens, with a KPI graph presenting historical KPI data and ranges.

Ensure correct avatar movement
Pay close attention to sensor placement.
Hold the attention pose during User Pose Calibration.
Run a rotation calibration between students, and when you change location.
Run a Static Calibration at the beginning of the day.
If you notice avatar errors, redo the static and rotation calibrations.
Do an Accelerometer calibration every 3–6 months.
User Pose Calibration
Follow the on-screen instructions.
If you notice visualization errors, repeat the user pose calibration.
If the sensors shift around, fix them and repeat the calibration.
On the Capture screen, tap on the … menu.
Tap on Reset user pose.
If you switch from standing to lying positions, repeat the user pose calibration in the attention pose.
Hardware Information
Plug the mini USB charger into the sensors and the hub.
Use a wall adapter with min. 1.5A output.
Estimated charging time for sensors: 1h.
Estimated charging time for hub: 2.5h.
Tip: If your charger produces less than 1.5A, the sensors/hub may not charge correctly.
Put the sensors in the foam.
Note: The LED lights should be up, facing the same direction.
Turn the foam upside down for 4 seconds.
Turn them right side up.
✓The sensors are blinking yellow.
Hub
Turn the hub upside down for 4 seconds.
Turn it right side up.
✓The hub is blinking yellow.
Put the sensors and the hub on the charger for 2 seconds.
✓The sensors and the hub are blinking yellow.
When not in use, it is best to either shut off the sensors or plug them into the charger. The system switches off after 15 minutes of inactivity.
On the Sensors screen, tap the … menu.
Select Shut down from the list.
The hub has its own Wi-Fi network called “Nucleus XXXX”. Find the exact name of the network on the bottom of the hub.
On the Sensors screen, tap the Bluetooth icon.
On the “4DMotion” Wants to Join Wi-Fi Network “Nucleus …” window, tap on Join.
✓ On the Sensors screen, the Sensor list appears with 4 or 8 connected sensors.
Tip: You can start the capture flow without connected and calibrated sensors. The app will guide you through connecting to the hub’s network and calibrating the sensors (if necessary).
Sensor Visibility
All sensors should be in the line of sight of the hub.
The hub should be placed on the side of the player to ensure sensor visibility. Use the clip-on mount to attach the hub to the player’s belt or trouser.
Reset Hub
Plug in and unplug the hub in the following cases:
The hub’s LED starts blinking red-blue-green quickly.
The hub doesn’t connect to your device.
Note: Wait a few seconds before connecting to the hub’s network again.
Keep Hub in Wi-Fi range
Keep the hub in the Wi-Fi range of your device. This is typically within 30 feet, depending on the environment.

When you’re connected to the hub’s network, you aren’t connected to the internet. Switch to your Wi-Fi before you perform the following actions:
Add licenses.
Add new students.
Watch video tutorials.
Log out.
Sync your captures to our server.
Send diagnostic information.
Each sensor has an LED light in the bottom right corner. The color of this LED indicates the status of the sensor:
Red blinking: low battery, < 10%
Pulsing green light: charging
Green blinking: fully charged
Yellow blinking: active sensor
Yellow blinking twice per second: sensor connected to hub
Green blinking on the hub: active hub
Red blinking on the hub: the hub is streaming data from the sensors to the app
On the Sensors screen, tap the Bluetooth icon to identify the sensors.
✓The sensors light up with identifying colors/patterns:
3 solid colors: red, yellow, green
3 blinking colors: red, yellow, green
2 changing colors: red-green, red-yellow
The sensors need to be calibrated before use.
You can calibrate them before starting a capture flow. If you have not calibrated them for over 24 hours and start a capture flow, the app will force the calibration.
If you reset the sensors, the app will force the second calibration (Static).
Before calibrating, place the sensors in the foam, with the LED lights up and facing the same direction.
Tip: If you calibrate fewer than 8 sensors, you can leave gaps in the foam.
Go to the Sensor list screen to start the calibration.
Tap on the … menu.
In the menu list, tap on Sensor calibration.
Sensor calibration consists of 2 parts. All instructions are displayed on-screen.
On the ROTATION CALIBRATION screen, tap on FIND SENSORS.
On the FOUND 8 sensors screen, tap NEXT.
✓ When the countdown finishes, you are redirected to the calibration screen.
Rotate the foam 360° at the horizontal axis.
Turn the foam 90° clockwise. Pause for a second.
Rotate the foam slowly 360° at the horizontal axis.
On the SUCCESSFULLY CALIBRATED screen, tap NEXT.
Tips:
Each 360° rotation should last 2–3 seconds.
If you can’t complete calibration after a few rotations, move to an area away from any metal or machines and restart from the Sensors screen.
On the Sensors screen, tap on the … menu.
On the menu list, tap on Static Calibration.
On the Static Calibration screen, tap FIND SENSORS.
On the FOUND 8 sensors screen, tap on the NEXT button.
Tap STOP to terminate calibration.
On the SUCCESSFULLY CALIBRATED screen, tap the DONE button.
First calibration
Make sure that the sensors are at least 4 feet away from (e.g. steel chairs, tables, other furniture) or magnetic (e.g. speakers) objects.
Charging
If the sensors are charged between measurements, the Static Calibration should be redone after unplugging them from the charger.
Restarting sensors
The calibration values are saved on the sensors, restarting them does not necessitate recalibration.
Repeat this calibration in the following cases:
The avatar’s movement is incorrect even after sensor calibration.
You can’t complete sensor calibration.
⚠
If the sensors are used to measure high impact movement, run an Acceleration Calibration at the start of each day.
Put the sensors in the foam with LED sides up, and facing the same direction.
The sensors should be sticking out of the foam evenly.
Start with sensors in the foam on a flat, steady surface.
Run the Acceleration Calibration
On the Sensors screen, tap the … menu.
On the ACCELEROMETER CALIBRATION screen, tap NEXT.
On the ACCELEROMETER CALIBRATION screen, tap FIND SENSORS.
On the FOUND 4/8 SENSORS screen, tap NEXT.
On the CALIBRATION screen, follow the on-screen instructions, and tap NEXT.
Repeat 5 times.
On the SUCCESSFULLY CALIBRATED screen, tap DONE.
When placing the sensors on the player’s body:
Place the chest and hip sensors with the LED side facing forward. When placed on the back, the LED should face the player’s back.
The arm sensors should be perpendicular to the chest and hip sensors when the player is in attention position. (Arms stretched and flush against the body. Wrist flat, 4 fingers pointing down.)
You can put on the sensors two ways:
Put the straps on the body and then carefully put a sensor in the designated strap as the application requires.
Put a sensor in the designated strap and then put the strap on your body. Do not put sensors in the strap and then put them down on the table.
Run the user pose calibration in the same place where you will be taking captures!
On the STAND STILL IN ATTENTION POSITION screen, read the instructions and tap NEXT.
Note: Tap on the COUNTDOWN button to select the countdown time from the list.
On the STAND STILL IN POSITION screen, stand in attention pose until after the second beep.
On the SUCCESSFUL SENSOR SETUP screen, tap on NEXT.
If the sensors shifted on the player’s body, correct their position and repeat the user pose calibration.
On the Capture screen, tap on the … menu.
Select Reset user pose.
Stand in an attention position.
Tip: When you move the sensors from the back to the front, repeat the user pose calibration in the attention pose.
The hub should be placed on the student’s side using the belt clip. This ensures that all the sensors used are in the line of sight of the hub.
The hub should be within the Wi-Fi range of the iPad. This is typically within 30 feet, depending on the environment.
When you perform movement with sudden deceleration, and the sensors reach their measurement thresholds, they can saturate. As a result, the movement of the avatar becomes unrealistic, and the data becomes incorrect.
When this happens, you receive a warning from the app. If you tap on the warning popup (orange circle with exclamation mark inside), you’ll see 2 types of instructions.
Please follow these recommendations to allow the sensor(s) to resolve the visualization error. Once the required movement is performed and the sensor resets, the popup should disappear with a beep.
First warning:
The following sensors need a quick recalibration:
STAND STILL IN ATTENTION POSE FOR 3 SECONDS
Once the sensor recalibrates, you can resume capturing.
Second warning:
The following sensors need a quick recalibration:
REPEAT USER POSE CALIBRATION
Go back to the original user pose location and assume the user pose for 3 seconds. Once the sensor could re-calibrate, all sensors can be used again.
If the orange popup doesn't disappear after 5 seconds in user pose, please run a Static Calibration.
If your sensors have saturated and the avatar still looks incorrect after a User Pose calibration, please run a Static Calibration:
On the Sensors screen, tap on the … menu.
On the menu list, tap on Static Calibration.
On the Static Calibration screen, tap FIND SENSORS.
On the FOUND 8 sensors screen, tap on the NEXT button.
Tap STOP to terminate calibration.
On the SUCCESSFULLY CALIBRATED screen, tap the DONE button.
Tip: If you calibrate fewer than 8 sensors, you can leave gaps.
⚠ Make sure that there aren’t any metal objects in close vicinity to the sensors (e.g. watches, belt buckles, chairs, electronic devices).
After Static Calibration, handle the sensors with care. Don’t shake or drop them. If you do, please recalibrate!
Try to minimize the time between Static Calibration and user pose calibration.
Do not put sensors in the strap and then put them down on the table.
Avoid any excessive movement before the first user pose calibration.
Run the user pose calibration in the same place where you will be taking captures!
Avoid standing in direct air condition breeze or cross-draft. Temperature changes impact the system in a negative way (the higher the change the bigger the impact).
If you notice a drift in the visualization, go back to where you did the user pose calibration, and assume the attention pose for a few seconds.
We’ll notify you when a firmware update is necessary. The app version you download contains the firmware, which means that 1) to run a firmware update, you need the newest app version. You can download it from the App Store. 2) You don’t need internet connection to run a firmware update.
Turn on the sensors and the hub.
On the “4DMotion” Wants to Join Wi-Fi Network “Nucleus …” window, tap on Join.
✓ On the Sensors screen, the Sensor list appears with 8 connected sensors.
On the Sensors screen, tap on the ... menu, and select FIRMWARE UPDATE.
On the FIRMWARE UPDATE screen, tap START.
On the FIRMWARE UPDATE SUCCESSFUL screen, tap FINISH.
Reset the hub after the firmware update: plug it into the charger, then unplug it.
Tip: If the firmware update is interrupted by an error, tap RESTART until all the sensors and the hub are updated successfully. If some sensors were updated during previous tries, only the remaining ones will be processed.
Sensor error during firmware update
Please press “Restart” and try again.
After several failed attempts, remove and re-pair the sensors:
On the Sensors screen, tap on each sensor and tap REMOVE.
Tap on the hub and tap REMOVE.
Tap the + icon.
Tap the START CONNECTING button.
On the Sensors Paired screen, tap CONFIRM.
On the … menu, select Firmware Update and start over.
First calibration fails
Don’t rotate too fast. Each rotation should take approx. 3 seconds.
Move away from your current location (e.g. a meter), as there could be too much magnetic disturbance where you are standing right now. The software has certain thresholds within which it tolerates disturbances.
If this calibration keeps failing even after several attempts in several locations, please run an accelerometer calibration, and try again.
Hub timeout or other hub connection error
Reset the hub by plugging it into the charger and unplugging it.
Close and restart the 4D Motion app.
Reconnect to the hub’s network, Nucleus XXXX.
Press the Bluetooth icon. Make sure that the sensors show up on the page and each one is marked with a color.
Bluetooth does not connect to all paired sensors
Make sure you are connected to the Hub’s network (Nucleus XXXX), and that the sensors are awake (blinking yellow). If not, turn the sensors upside down for 4 seconds to turn them on.
Reset the hub by plugging it into the charger for a few seconds, then unplug it.
Restart the application, go to the sensors page, connect to Nucleus XXXX, and tap the Bluetooth button again.
‘Hub response timeout’
During sensor calibration: check if your device is connected to the hub’s network (in iOS Settings). If the hub isn’t available on the Wi-Fi list, charge it for a minimum of 15 seconds and refresh the network list. It may take a few seconds for the hub’s network to show up on the list. Go back to the app, and connect to Nucleus XXXX.
During Static Calibration: check if your device is connected to the hub’s network (in iOS settings). If the hub isn’t available on the list, charge it for a minimum of 15 seconds and refresh the network list. It may take a few seconds for the hub’s network to show up on the list. Go back to the app, and connect to Nucleus XXXX.
When connecting to sensors: First start the flow again using the ‘Connect’ button. If it doesn’t help, check in the iOS Settings menu if the device is connected to the hub’s network. If the hub isn’t available on the list, charge the hub for a minimum of 15 seconds, unplug it, and refresh the network list. It may take a few seconds for the hub’s network to show up on the list. Go back to the app, and connect to Nucleus XXXX.
During sensor placement: Start the flow again using the Next button. If this doesn’t help, please reset the hub: charge it for 5 seconds, then try again.
User Pose Calibration errors
The hub is too far away from the user or your device. ‘Cannot connect to some sensors. Please make sure that your mobile device has direct or at least partial line of sight with each sensor…’
When performing a capture, the hub should be on the student’s body using the belt clip, or within a few feet if not worn using the belt clip. First, try to start the flow again using the Next button. If it doesn’t help, change your position so that the sensors and the hub are in the line of sight of your device.
Hub response timeout: Start the flow again using the Next button. If this doesn’t help, please reset the hub: charge it for 5 seconds, then try again.
Sensor error: First try to start the flow again using the Next button. If it doesn’t help, change your position in front of your device so that the sensors are in the line of sight of your device.
Sensors aren’t blinking
If sensors are active but not connected to the hub for more than 15 minutes, they turn off. Turn the sensor upside down to activate them again. If they don’t start blinking, put them on the charger for at least 10 minutes.
Sensor’s LED is stuck in a solid color (e.g. red), or sensor doesn’t light up after pressing the Bluetooth icon
Reset the sensor by charging it for 5 seconds. Unplug it and press the Bluetooth icon.
Hub isn’t blinking
The hub is switched off (automatically or due to low battery). Your device may not be connected to the hub’s network.
Turn the hub upside down for 4 seconds to wake it up. If that doesn’t help, charge it for a few minutes.
Connect to the Nucleus XXXXX network.
Press the Bluetooth icon on the Sensor list screen to check if the hub can connect to your device, and to see its battery level.
‘Error - No sensors found. Turn on an unpaired sensor and retry.’
The message means there aren’t any available, unpaired sensors nearby. This can happen if A) available sensors have already been paired, or B) the unpaired sensors aren’t available for the hub and the device.
If the sensor doesn’t light up, turn it upside down to activate it. If it doesn’t help, put the sensor on the charger for at least 10 minutes, unplug it and try again.
‘Not all of your sensors are calibrated. Please calibrate before you move on to the next screen.’
Turn the sensors upside down to wake them up.
If that doesn’t help, plug in and unplug all the sensors and the hub.
Make sure your device is connected to the hub’s network.
Start the capture again.
Hub blinks red-green-blue
Plug in and unplug the hub to reset it.
Note: Wait a few seconds before connecting to the hub’s network again.
The visualization is incorrect. E.g. body parts are moving in the wrong direction, or the orientation of the avatar is not right.
If the capture avatar is not moving correctly, make sure the sensors are on the right body part. If you’re unsure about this, you can press “Reconnect sensors” on the Start Capture screen. This starts the sensor placement flow.
You can adjust the sensors if needed, and run a User Pose Calibration. If you need to adjust them because the straps shifted, run a User Pose Calibration again.
If these don’t resolve the issue, you may be in a magnetic environment that confuses the magnetometer in the sensors. Strong magnetic interference can cause the sensors to ‘drift.’ This can result in incorrect visualization, e.g. the body parts are not aligned correctly. You can perform Static Calibration to stop the drift. If you are in an environment with high magnetic interference, you may have to repeat Static Calibrations as time goes by and the sensors drift.
If you’re having visualization errors even after several calibrations, please run an Accelerometer calibration.
Reporting errors and bugs
In the app: go to Settings '⚙', and tap 'send diagnostic info'. This works only when you’re connected to the Internet.
Via email: support@4dmotionsports.com. When reporting errors via email, please always write down what you did step by step, and attach a screenshot or screen recording of the error.
Avatar: The figure representing your patient, and mirroring their movements. There’s a live preview avatar while the capture is ongoing, and a capture avatar that allows you to re-watch the capture.
Capture: A capture is a single repetition or single movement test performed on an individual. This will be the duration between starting and stopping the recording.
Check Results Button: Check the results of your captures both during and after the Session. The Results screen shows the KPI list and the capture avatar.
Extended KPI View window: Tap on a KPI on the list to open an Extended KPI View window under the avatar. This contains:
Average values: if the same Movement was performed multiple times, this value is their average.
Maximum value: the maximum value of the selected movement.
Range: visual tool to place the movement within a good to poor spectrum.
KPI Card List: Key Performance Indicators focus on one aspect of the performed movement. Each category has a different set of KPIs. The KPIs are displayed on the right hand-side of the screen.
Movement Category: Movements are put into 3 categories: Squat Mechanics, Range of Motion, Core Stability. Each category has a main focus reflected in their set of KPIs.
Movements: In each movement category, there are several movements. There are individual movements (e.g. Squat or Right Knee ROM) or a static movement test (e.g. plank). Within a session, you can select as many categories and movements as necessary. You can also add your own movements (Add New Movements).
Session: A capture or a series of captures taken consecutively, with the same patient. A session finishes when you tap on the ← icon > Are you sure you want to stop the current session? window > tap on Yes.
Trendline: In the Extended KPI View window, tap on Show trendline. On the Trendline screen, you can compare the KPI to the patient’s historic data from older captures.
